Concrete answers

Can you pour concrete in Texas summer heat?

The short answer

Yes. Concrete is poured through Texas summers, but heat makes it set faster and lose surface moisture quickly, which can lead to cracking and a weaker surface. Early-morning pours, a well-planned crew and keeping the new concrete moist while it cures make the difference.

What heat does

  • Concrete sets faster, giving less time to finish it.
  • The surface can dry before the inside, causing small shrinkage cracks.
  • Wind and direct sun speed up moisture loss.

How summer pours are handled

  • Starting early in the day, before the worst heat.
  • Dampening the base so it does not pull water out of the concrete.
  • Having enough hands to place and finish quickly.
  • Curing: keeping the slab moist or using a curing compound for the first days.

What you can do

After the pour, follow the care instructions you are given. If you are asked to keep the slab damp, that step matters most in the first several days. New concrete care.

This page is general information. Every slab and every yard is different, so the right answer for your concrete comes from looking at it in person.
