Driveway installation from dirt to finished drive
Whether it is a first driveway on a new lot, a tear-out and replacement, or gravel turned into concrete, installation follows the same careful order. Here is what happens on an install day and the days around it.
Installation is the right call when
Repairs will not get you there
- There is no driveway yet, or only dirt and gravel
- Most of the old driveway is broken, heaved or sunken
- The base under the old drive has washed out
- You want a different layout, width or approach
Three kinds of installation
- New construction: a driveway to a new home, garage or shop building.
- Replacement: the old concrete is broken out and hauled away, the base is rebuilt, and a new drive is poured.
- Gravel to concrete: the gravel drive is graded and used as part of a proper base where it is suitable.
How an installation runs
- Layout. We mark the shape, width and slope, and check where water will go.
- Tear-out and grading. Old concrete or soft material comes out, and the ground is cut to grade.
- Base. Base material is spread and compacted for even support.
- Forms and steel. Forms are set to line and grade, and reinforcement is placed.
- Pour and finish. The concrete is placed, screeded level, floated and given a broom finish.
- Joints and curing. Control joints are added and the slab is left to cure before traffic.
Before install day
Clear vehicles and anything stored along the drive, and let us know about sprinkler lines, cables or anything buried nearby. If part of the work is at the street, some cities need approval for work in the right-of-way. What to check in Tyler.

Frequently asked
How long does a driveway installation take?
It depends on size, tear-out and weather. Prep and forming usually take longer than the pour itself. We will give you the expected schedule with your quote.
Can you pour concrete in the Texas summer?
Yes, with the right timing and curing. Early starts and keeping the slab moist matter in the heat. How hot-weather pours work.
What do I need to do after the pour?
Keep traffic off it until we say it is ready, and follow the care steps we give you. New driveway care.
