    The owners wanted to replace a gravel drive that ran from the road to a detached garage and kept washing out after heavy rain.

  2. What we found

    The gravel had worked down into red clay in the wheel paths, and the low spot near the garage held water after every storm.

  3. What we did

    We pulled the gravel, regraded so water ran off to the side, built a compacted base and poured a reinforced, broom-finished drive with control joints along its length.

Worth knowing. On a long drive, the low spots decide how long the concrete lasts. Fix the grade before you pour.

  2. What we found

    The yard sloped slightly toward the shed site, so the pad needed fill on the low side to come out level.

  3. What we did

    We built up and compacted the low side, poured a reinforced pad sized to the building, and ran a walkway to it in the same pour.
